Mexico: Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek has beaten Aryna Sabalenka to enter her first WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Finals. Swiatek will be the best player in the world for the second consecutive year if she wins the title.

“I’m really, really happy; I think that was the toughest and also the nicest match that I’ve played here,” Swiatek said after her win.

The Polish player will face American tennis player Jessica Pegula in the finals. Pegula defeated American player Coco Gauff 6-2, 6-1 to reach her dreamy finals.

Both players who qualified for the finals had exceptional rivals in their previous matches. The 22-year-old Swiatek’s and 29-year-old Sabalenka’s matches ended in 6-3, 6-2.

The final was supposed to take place on November 5, 2023, but due to rain, it was postponed to November 6, 2023. The semi-final started on Saturday but was suspended after the fourth game due to bad weather and resumed on Sunday.

Swiatek was leading in the first game, then completely saved her victory in a 90-minute match against Sabalenka.

Pegula has career-high WTA rankings of world No. 4 in singles, and world No. 1 in doubles, achieved on September 11, 2023.
