Tel Aviv: The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have reported significant advancements in southern Gaza, particularly highlighting a major operation in Khan Yunis. According to the IDF, troops from the 7th Armored Brigade successfully raided multiple Hamas sites, including a key intelligence headquarters. This facility, situated in Khan Yunis, was reportedly central to Hamas’s intelligence operations in the area.
In a detailed statement, the IDF elaborated that the intelligence headquarters was not only instrumental in Hamas’s regional activities but also shared its premises with a command center of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. This dual-purpose complex was a significant target in the IDF’s ongoing operations in the region.
One of the notable outcomes of this raid, as per IDF reports, was the recovery of critical intelligence materials deemed “very valuable.” These materials are expected to provide insights into the operational frameworks and strategies of Hamas in Khan Yunis and possibly beyond.
Concurrently, the Givati Brigade, another IDF unit, conducted raids on several Hamas sites in southern Gaza. These operations involved sniper fire and tank shelling, leading to the elimination of multiple Hamas operatives. Additionally, the IDF coordinated airstrikes targeting Hamas gunmen and other infrastructure linked to the group.
Before these ground maneuvers, the IDF’s 98th Division and Air Force had executed around 50 strikes in the Khan Yunis area. These strikes primarily targeted tunnels and infrastructure used by Hamas for offensive operations against Israeli troops.
The 2023 Israel-Hamas war, which began on October 7, 2023, has, as of December 25, 2023, resulted in an estimated 22,000 fatalities, including Palestinians, Israelis, journalists, and UNRWA aid workers.
The conflict was ignited by a large-scale assault from Hamas originating in the Gaza Strip, leading to significant casualties and destruction in Israel and among foreign nationals, including civilians. Since the onset of the conflict, the Gaza Health Ministry has reported over 20,000 Palestinian deaths in the Gaza Strip alone, predominantly women and children.
