Gaza: Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, has declared its support for Iran after the latter’s launch of hundreds of missiles and drones against Israel in retaliation for an attack on its consulate in Damascus, Syria.
In a statement released by the Palestinian Hamas group, stated that it professed ‘the natural right’ of Middle Eastern countries and populace to safeguard themselves ‘against Zionist aggression.’ The group said that, “The military operation carried out by Iran against the Zionist entity is a natural right and a due response to the crime of targeting the consulate in Damascus.”
The Iranian military launched a salvo consisting of more than 300 cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, according to Israeli troops. However, 99 percent of the missiles were prevented with the help of France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed responsibility and stated that the mission, named Operation True Promise, was launched in response to ‘the Zionist entity’s crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Syria’ which took place in April.
A recent raid that took place in Damascus resulted in the death of 13 people, including two high-ranking generals from the Quds Force, a branch of the IRGC. The Israeli government did not ratify or decline guilt for the aggression on the consulate. Iran’s mission to the United Nations declared the issue ‘concluded,’ but also allocated a warning to Israel, stating that any further mistakes would result in a much stronger response. The US was also cautioned not to get involved in the battle.
Several Western countries denounced Iran’s attack. The United Kingdom confirmed that it is operating towards stabilising the condition while France criticised Tehran for threatening a potential military dispute. Egypt and Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, were summoned for moderation.
The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, expressed his deep concern over the danger of a widespread escalation. The UN Security Council scheduled an emergency session to discuss the attacks at Israel’s request.
