Geneva: The upcoming AI for Good Global Summit 2024 in Geneva (Geneva AI Global Summit), Switzerland, will commence on May 29th with the UN’s inaugural AI Governance Day. This landmark event will bring together stakeholders from over 70 governments, industry, academia, civil society, and UN agencies to deliberate on the implementation of ethical AI frameworks and ensure equitable access for all nations.
Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN Agency for Digital Technologies, AI Governance Day aims to foster global collaboration on AI governance. Discussions will center on principles like equitability, inclusivity, safety, and security, ensuring the benefits of rapidly evolving AI technologies are shared by all.
ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin emphasized the need for “AI technologies that are safe, secure and that go beyond bias to benefit everybody.” She further stated that AI Governance Day will strengthen international principles while ensuring all countries have a voice in the development of AI.
The summit will also explore the role of technical standards and capacity development in ensuring consistent and effective AI governance globally. It aims to align with the objectives of a recent UN General Assembly resolution on AI, which promotes responsible AI for the betterment of all.
Beyond governance, the AI for Good Global Summit will showcase groundbreaking innovations in generative AI, robotics, and brain-machine interfaces that have the potential to drive progress in critical areas like climate action, accessibility, health, and disaster response.
Featuring renowned AI experts, the summit will delve into the latest advancements in AI and discuss strategies to ensure AI works for the benefit of humanity.
