Dubai: World Future Energy Summit 2024 (WFES) will bring together global industry experts to discuss Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) Green Hydrogen Adoption initiatives. The experts will discuss how carbon-free hydrogen can propel the GCC’s energy transition.
The 2024 Summit is the 16th edition of the annual business event for Future Energy and Sustainability in the MENA region. It is scheduled to be held in April at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC). Before the Summit, there were several project announcements in the green hydrogen sector, which are now moving into the development phase.
Companies and policymakers are working together to unleash the transformative potential of green hydrogen, making this a challenging task. The Hydrogen Council, led by CEOs, stated that the success of over 1,400 projects declared globally is essential as the rising hydrogen industry is confronting challenges of high costs and inflation.
Across the Middle East and North Africa region, over 80 green hydrogen projects were reported. The United Arab Emirates recently launched its National Hydrogen Strategy, while Masdar seeks to produce one million tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen per year by 2030.
By 2026, NEOM’s Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) plans to produce 1.2 million tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen in Saudi Arabia. While the construction of the NEOM giga project is progressing and other well-planned projects are taking shape, industry professionals remain optimistic about the success of the region’s green hydrogen revolution.
As an incremental choosing process unfolds, the most potent projects will appear and ensure financing, making funding crucial. Additionally, a supportive procedure framework persists and evolves in the GCC, Asia, and Europe. This region potentially carries the capability to provide green hydrogen to these areas.
Cornelius Matthes, CEO of the UAE-based think tank Dii Desert Energy, raised some major questions which will be discussed on a tailored platform at the WFES 2024.
Abhay Bhargava, Senior VP at Frost & Sullivan, will join a panel discussing the future of the hydrogen industry at the Solar & Clean Energy conference. They will explore the progress and potential of green hydrogen initiatives, including the world’s largest green hydrogen project starting in Saudi Arabia.
The panel will discuss institutions and policies to create investor confidence and explore whether the MENSA hydrogen sector will be driven by domestic markets or exports. The World Future Energy Summit 2024 is expected to include a large number of participants who will be discussing solar, eco-waste, water, clean energy, smart cities, climate, and the environment.
