Pakistan: In a stunning turn of events, former Pakistan Prime Minister Mr. Imran Khan is set to appear before a special court at the police headquarters in the capital city. This appearance follows his unexpected arrest, which sparked widespread protests across the nation. Mr. Khan faces charges related to corruption, and his presence in court on Wednesday marks a pivotal moment in his legal battle.

The political crisis in Pakistan has escalated significantly as former Prime Minister Mr. Imran Khan was detained shortly after the country’s powerful military rebuked him. Mr. Khan, a former international cricketer, had made allegations implicating a senior military officer in a plot to assassinate him. The former PM’s arrest comes after months of political turmoil, adding a new layer of complexity to the already tense situation.

As the political unrest intensified in Pakistan, some protesters vented their anger towards the military by setting fire to the residence of the corps commander in Lahore and besieging the entrance to the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi, a garrison city. The violent acts directed at military facilities reflect the escalating tensions and the profound divisions within the country. The situation remains highly volatile, and developments are being closely monitored as the authorities strive to restore calm and address the grievances fueling the protests.

Arrests and imprisonments of politicians in Pakistan have been common since the nation’s inception in 1947. However, only a limited number of political figures have dared to directly confront the military, which has orchestrated several coups and governed for more than three decades.

Peshawar witnessed the destruction of the Chaghi monument, a symbolic mountain-shaped sculpture commemorating Pakistan’s inaugural nuclear test. In addition, memorials honoring fallen servicemen were vandalized during tumultuous events. Throughout the 9th May 2023rd night, fierce clashes ensued between police forces and supporters of Mr. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, engulfing cities across the nation. Tragically, local media reported two fatalities arising from these confrontations, while authorities confirmed the arrest of at least 150 individuals involved in the disturbances.

Following the previous night’s unrest, a relatively calmer atmosphere prevailed on the 10th of May 2023 morning in Pakistan’s capital city. However, a significant security presence was evident, particularly around the designated police lines where the special court hearing was scheduled. As a precautionary measure, authorities extended the closure of schools nationwide, while access to popular social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook remained restricted.
