Brazil: Pele has thanked his concerned fans for their notes of support as he spends time in the hospital. The Brazilian football legend stated he was making his “monthly visit” and shared a photo of a building in Qatar lit up with his image and the words “Get Well Soon”.
“It’s always nice to receive positive messages like this. Thanks to Qatar for this tribute, and to everyone who sends me good vibes,” the legend posted on Instagram. The post got more than 240,000 likes in the first two hours.
Hospital Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo did not issue a daily statement about the health of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the man globally known as Pele.
The hospital announced that Pele would start chemotherapy after a tumour was removed more than a year ago, but it remained unclear whether the former footballer’s cancer had spread to other organs. Since then, he has contacted the hospital every month.
Pele’s daughter tried to reassure fans this week when she said his admission wasn’t an emergency and there was no “new dire prediction.”
“He had cardiac issues and doctors were concerned his chemotherapy was not having the expected results,” as per the reports. The 82-year-old had a colon tumour removed in September 2021, and has since been visiting hospitals regularly for medical care.
Pele is a star and is often acknowledged as the greatest player in history. The Brazilian player leads Brazil’s international scoring list with 77 goals in 92 games. Pele was also a member of the legendary 1970 World Cup-winning team.
