United States: The Grammy Awards have seen a female sweep of the top prizes, with Taylor Swift taking home the album of the year award for the fourth time. Swift is the only artist to have won the top music industry prize so frequently in their career.
With her album Midnights, Swift won the award, surpassing music legends Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, and Paul Simon in terms of the most Grammy wins.
Swift claimed the moment was amazing, but it was similar to many other times in her career when she was “rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.” Swift was joined on stage by producer Jack Antonoff and fellow nominee Lana Del Rey.
Song of the Year, which honours songwriting, went to 22-year-old Billie Eilish for her ballad “What Was I Made For,” which was written for the Barbie soundtrack. Miley Cyrus, 31, took home Record of the Year, which honours an overall performance, for her song “Flowers.”
Victoria Monet, an R&B and pop singer, won best new artist. Swift, who is currently on her Eras tour, had six nominations going into the ceremony on Sunday, including best record and best song. She also won an award for best pop vocal album.
The pop sensation declared that her new studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, would be out on April 19 as she accepted the award. Swift won three awards for album of the year before, including Fearless, 1989, and Folklore.
