New York, USA: UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and global celebrity actor Ms. Priyananka Chopra struck a chord among the crowd in the opening remarks at the United Nations General Assembly on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2022 at the UN.

The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador said, “Not everything is right in our world, but they can be fixed.”

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are a call to action to eradicate poverty and protect the Earth and all who live on it. Seventeen goals were adopted by all UN member states in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda.

With less than eight years left to achieve the SDGs, Ms. Chopra remarked that, “a just, safe and healthy world” is the right of every person and can only be realized with global solidarity. The former Bollywood actress also weighed in on some of the world’s most pressing issues, such as the pandemic, education and poverty.

“As countries continue to struggle from the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the climate crisis adds to lives and livelihoods, as conflicts rage, poverty, displacement, hunger and inequality erode the very foundations of a more just world for us. Struggled for so long,” Ms. Chopra quoted in a speech shared by the UN on YouTube.

“These crises did not happen by chance, but they can be fixed with a plan. We have that plan, the UN sustainable development goals – a to-do list for the world. These goals were created hand in hand with people around the world in 2015; together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to change the world that we live in,” Ms. Chopra highlighted.

The actor told that the present and the future of the world rest “in our hands”. ”We owe it to our people; we owe it to our planet. We all deserve a just, safe and healthy world to live in. But time is running out.” Ms. Chopra emphasized.
