United States: Twitter plans to introduce its verified service with various Coloured checks for people, businesses, and Governments soon following a disastrous initial launch that saw a spike in users impersonating brands and celebrities on the platform.
Chief Executive Mr. Elon Musk assign Colours to various categories: Gold for Companies, Grey for Governments, and Blue checks for People, including Celebrities. Mr. Musk added that verified accounts will be manually authenticated before a check is activated, calling it “Painful but necessary.”
The current head of Twitter explained in another tweet that the updated $8 per month service will enable users to have a smaller, secondary logo of their businesses upon their verification. The social media site postponed its debut earlier to ensure its security. The service is anticipated to help Twitter increase revenue at a time when Mr. Musk is attempting to keep advertisers after purchasing the firm earlier for $44 billion.
The subscription service, which Mr. Musk referred to as a “great leveler,” was put on hold on November 11 as a result of the proliferation of fake accounts, which led the richest man in the world to reinstate the “official” badge for some users.
For instance, one user pretending to be drugmaker Eli Lilly and Co had tweeted that insulin would be free, setting off a drop in the company’s shares and forcing it to issue an apology.
Many businesses, including General Motors and United Airlines, decided to stop or remove their platform advertisements as a result of the unrest. However, according to Mr. Musk, Twitter’s user growth is at an all-time high.
