San Francisco: Elon Musk, the CEO of X, has stated that the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, will soon undergo a major overhaul of its interface.
According to Musk, X will soon clear reposts, likes, and replies metrics from the timeline to enhance its appearance. This change will be another noteworthy structure adjustment for the social media platform, following last year’s modification of how X displays links to news articles.
Elon Musk confirmed that view counts will continue to be displayed on social media platform X. This feature was added by Musk after he took over the platform. However, he also mentioned that other metrics would no longer be accessible. This confirmation came while Musk was responding to a follower’s message on Twitter, who suggested that the other hidden metrics could still be accessed by clicking on a post.
This isn’t the first time that Musk discussed removing metrics from X’s homepage. In a subscriber-only post last year, the CEO stated that he intends to remove all the action buttons, along with their unnecessary interaction counts, from the main timeline, except for the view count which will only be displayed when a user taps on a post.
Earlier, Twitter made another significant design change that removed the display of headlines on posts linking to news articles. Before this change, news article links were presented as ‘cards’ which included the article’s lead image, headline, and a brief one-line summary.
This was replaced by a clickable lead image, making it hard to distinguish from photo posts on the timeline. Some people criticised this change, but Elon Musk, who owns the website, called the old cards ugly and said the repetitive text was too much for him.
Musk wanted to make the website look better. A few months later, X partially moved back the transition and started putting headlines on top of the news article’s lead image when someone shared a news link.
