United States: The former drummer of the Earth, Wind and Fire band Mr. Fred White has died at the age of 67.
Mr. White’s brother Verdine White paid tribute to the “amazing and talented” musician on his Instagram post, sharing that “Freddie is now drumming with the angels.”
“Dearest family, friends and fans. Our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene ‘Freddie’ White,” Mr. Verdine White shared.
“But more than that at home and beyond he was the wonderful bro that was always entertaining and delightfully mischievous. He will live in our hearts forever, rest in power beloved Freddie,” the brother and bandmate of the veteran musician added.
Mr. Lenny Kravitz, an American singer-songwriter, shared his condolences by stating that “sending my love and deepest condolences to you and the family. I was blessed to have been in his presence and blessed to have been influenced by him. A true king. Rest in power.”
Mr. White began his drumming career at nine years old and appeared on his first gold record, Mr. Donny Hathaway’s Live, at just 16.
The American musician joined the band Earth, Wind and Fire in 1974, which was founded by his brother Mr. Maurice and was known for several hit songs such as “September” and “Boogie Wonderland.”
Later, the group shot to fame with its triple platinum album “That’s the Way of the World.” The team became one of the best-selling bands of all time, with over 90 million records sold worldwide.
Over the years, the group won six Grammys and four American Music Awards, as well as entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and gaining a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
