United States: Much of the US is anticipated to experience life-threatening wind chills and severe snowfall from a powerful winter storm. The hurricane is expected to make landfall in the nation, causing potential travel disruption for millions of Americans.
According to National Weather Service forecaster Mr. Bob Oravec, around 200 million people are under extreme weather alerts as cold air from the Northern Plains causes temperatures to nosedive.
“Rapid temperature drops, sometimes 50 or more degrees (Fahrenheit) colder than the previous day, it’s a pretty powerful, powerful system,” Mr. Oravec added.
The Upper Midwest could receive up to a foot of snow from the storm till 23rd December 2022, which is fed by moisture from the Great Lakes. Blizzard conditions could also affect the Northern Plains states and the Great Lakes region.
“By Thursday night, a so-called bomb cyclone will likely form along the strong Arctic front across the Great Lakes, sending pressure sharply lower in a 24-hour period, potentially driving temperatures to record-breaking lows on the Gulf Coast and in Florida and the eastern US by Friday,” Mr. Oravec stated.
Before the Arctic front arrives and causes a freeze, the meteorological service warned that areas of the northeast coastline and New England might experience dangerous coastal flooding on December 22nd and 23rd 2022. Rainfall of up to 7.6 CM is anticipated.
According to the statement, Officials are warning of severe travel disruption due to the weather. With temperatures dropping more than 11C (20F) within hours, wet roads could suddenly turn to ice, the weather service warned.
