Washington: Doug Emhoff, the husband of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, has publicly acknowledged that he cheated on his first wife over 15 years ago. This admission follows a report by The Daily Mail, which alleged that Emhoff had an affair with Najen Naylor, a nanny who worked for his family at the time and later became pregnant.

In a statement to CNN, Emhoff confirmed the affair without naming Naylor or addressing the pregnancy. “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions,” he said. “I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”

The affair reportedly occurred while Emhoff was still married to his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff. Najen Naylor, described as a blonde nanny who also taught at the private school attended by Emhoff’s children, became pregnant but did not keep the baby, according to a close friend familiar with the situation.

Kerstin Emhoff, in a separate statement, expressed a supportive stance. “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago,” she said. “He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me, and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”

The affair was reportedly disclosed to President Joe Biden’s vetting panel four years ago before he selected Kamala Harris as his running mate for the 2020 U.S. presidential election, CNN reported, citing a source.
