United States: A new criminal charge has been filed against former US President Mr. Donald Trump for pressuring an employee to delete security footage at his Florida home.
The new accusation includes three more charges in addition to the existing 37, bringing the total charges in this case to 40. The new charges are related to the intentional withholding of defence information and obstruction of justice.
Mr. Trump has denied all the accusations and called the prosecutor “deranged.” The former President is already facing multiple cases. Mr. Carlos de Oliveira, a staff member at the former US president’s Mar-a-Lago estate, has recently been charged with an indictment as well. Allegedly, he inquired about the possibility of deleting the footage, which reportedly captures the movement of illegally held files.
According to the new court documents, Mr. Nauta and Mr. de Oliveira conspired to delete footage from security cameras after the Department of Justice issued a subpoena asking for surveillance footage of the basement where confidential documents were held.
In the court documents, it is claimed that Mr. de Oliveira texted another employee who was the director of information technology that “the boss” wanted the server deleted.
Mr. de Oliveira is described as walking through bushes and foliage at the edge of Mar-a-Lago, the leisure resort famously known as the Winter White House, in order to reach the IT room and meet with Mr. Nuata, as per the indictment.
