Paramount Pictures, the film’s production company, confirmed that the injuries sustained during a planned stunt sequence were non-life-threatening. The affected crew members are reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment.
Earlier reports indicated that an explosion had occurred on set, leading to six individuals being hospitalized. A source described the incident as terrifying, with a large ball of fire injuring multiple crew members. The accident has left everyone involved, from the lowest-ranking crew members to the film’s stars, shaken.
Paramount Pictures assured that swift action was taken by the on-site safety and medical teams to provide immediate care to those impacted. The production company emphasized its commitment to strict health and safety procedures on all their productions and pledged to take all necessary precautions as they resume filming.
While no cast members were injured, six people received treatment for burn injuries, with four remaining in the hospital as per the statement. The highly anticipated sequel, directed by Sir Ridley Scott, who also helmed the original 2000 film, is slated for release in November 2024. The movie’s title has not yet been announced, but it features actors such as Paul Mescal from Normal People, Denzel Washington, and Connie Nielson.
The first Gladiator film was a critical and commercial success, earning five Oscars, including Best Actor for Russell Crowe. Set in the Roman Empire, the story follows the journey of Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Crowe, as he transitions from a war hero to a gladiator due to unfortunate circumstances. The film revitalized the historical epic drama genre, which had been out of fashion for many years, grossing $457 million at the box office.
