Sydney, Australia: Toxic spinach has resulted in urgent medical attention in Australia after people who consumed it suffered severe sickness and hallucinations.

Nine people from Sydney have sought medical care after eating the Riviera Farms baby spinach from Costco.

According to the health authorities, the symptoms in these cases include delirium, spiked heart rates and blurred vision.

As soon as we were advised of the possible weed contamination from one of our customers, we immediately advised them to remove our impacted spinach from their shelves, and contacted state health and federal food authorities.

    the Riviera Farms stated.

The brand added that “there is no suggestion, and to our knowledge no possibility, that any other products have been impacted by this weed.”

According to the company, the medical emergency can be due to the contamination of spinach by a weed.

New South Wales (NSW) Health warned that any packets of the Riviera’s spinach with an expiry date of December 16 are not safe to consume and should be discarded.

NSW Health informed that “the product is not safe to consume and people who have it should throw it out.”

Riviera Farms informed that the brand has been contacting the state and federal food regulators after immediately instructing customers to withdraw the spinach product due to the reports of contamination.

Customers with concerns or questions about spinach exposure should call the Poisons Information Centre at 131 126, and anyone experiencing unusual or severe symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
