United States: Computer chip giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced that it will more than triple investment in its US plant.

TSMC declared that it will substantially increase its investment in Arizona, where it is constructing a $12 billion chip facility, to $40 billion in order to build a second, even more advanced plant there.

Arizona plants will produce 3-nm and 4-nm chips used for iPhone processors. Semiconductors are sometimes referred to as the “brains” of electronics like smartphones, car components and AI technology.

When complete, TSMC Arizona will be the greenest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the United States producing the most advanced semiconductor process technology in the country, enabling next generation high-performance and low-power computing products for years to come.

Mr. Mark Liu, TSMC Chairman, stated.

The chairman added that, “We are thankful for the continual collaboration that has brought us here and are pleased to work with our partners in the United States to serve as a base for semiconductor innovation.”

Mr. Biden shared that “we’re down to producing only around 10 percent of the world’s chips, despite leading the world in research and design in new chip technologies,”

The President added that, “The United States is better positioned than any other nation to lead the world economy in the years ahead if we keep our focus.”
