San Francisco: ChatGPT has expanded its capabilities by adding shopping features, entering a space traditionally dominated by tech giants like Amazon and Google.
The new update allows users to easily view prices, reviews, and personalized product recommendations, along with direct purchase links. OpenAI, ChatGPT’s parent company, emphasized that these selections are independent and not advertisements.
Launched last year, ChatGPT’s search tool has quickly become one of its most popular features, with over a billion web searches in just the past week.
While Google remains the dominant player in search, capturing about 89 percent of global traffic, its market share has been declining in recent months.

Open AI wrote on X that, “We’re excited to announce we’ve launched several improvements to ChatGPT search, and today we’re starting to roll out a better shopping experience.”
By adding shopping features to its search, OpenAI directly competes with Google and other product review sites like the New York Times. Amazon launched its own AI shopping assistant last year, and AI competitor Perplexity also offers a similar tool.
The goal of the update is to make it easier and faster for users to find, compare, and buy products. The feature will be rolled out to all users, although the process may take a few days.
Additionally, OpenAI unveiled other updates, including a live sports score feature, the ability to provide multiple citations in its responses, and the use of trending searches and autocomplete suggestions to make search faster.
