Los Angeles: California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency as a fast-moving wildfire, fueled by high winds, sweeps through the suburbs of Los Angeles.
The blaze is particularly impacting the upscale Pacific Palisades area, known for its celebrity residents. Governor Newsom urged residents of Southern California to remain vigilant, follow local emergency guidance, and take necessary precautions.
The wildfire, driven by “life-threatening” winds, has prompted evacuations of approximately 30,000 people in the Pacific Palisades, located between Santa Monica and Malibu. The fire is spreading through the foothills, and its smoke can be seen from as far as six miles away, including from Venice Beach.
Actor James Woods, who lives in the area, shared footage of flames approaching his property and confirmed that he had been evacuated. While he is uncertain about his home’s fate, he reported that his neighbor’s house caught fire, though they were safely evacuated.
Actor Steve Guttenberg has been assisting with evacuations by moving parked cars to make room for emergency vehicles, expressing concern for those unable to leave the area.

The Los Angeles Fire Department, led by Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, is dealing with “extreme fire weather conditions.” More than 250 firefighters are battling the blaze, which has grown from 10 acres to over 1,200 acres due to 40mph winds. Although no injuries have been reported, multiple buildings have sustained damage, and many structures have been destroyed.
In addition, the US National Weather Service warns of a potentially record-breaking Santa Ana windstorm, expected to bring gusts up to 80mph in the region and up to 100mph in the mountains and foothills.
The Pacific Palisades area, famous for its scenic views and hiking trails, is home to numerous celebrities, including Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, and Adam Sandler.
