Esparto: The California fireworks facility explosion has devastated a commercial pyrotechnics business in rural northern California, leveling the site and sparking a blaze that burned nearly 78 acres of surrounding land.
The California fireworks facility explosion rocked the Yolo County community of Esparto, about 40 miles west of Sacramento, creating a huge fireball and a series of smaller blasts as fireworks ignited in the debris.
According to Jason Clay of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the flames spread rapidly, scorching roughly 32 hectares of vegetation.

Curtis Lawrence, Esparto Fire Protection District Chief, confirmed that two people injured during the initial blast have received treatment, but 7 others remain missing more than 24 hours after the incident.
Aerial footage shows the warehouse-like building completely demolished. The blast sent thick black smoke into the sky, with pyrotechnics continuing to ignite and explode, posing an ongoing risk for emergency crews.
The cause of the California fireworks facility explosion is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office. It occurred just 3 days before July 4, when fireworks displays peak across the US. California Fire Department has shared an awareness on it’s X, with specific guidelines on using Fireworks for July 4 celebrations.
Due to the risk of live fireworks still detonating at random, firefighters and emergency responders are maintaining a safe perimeter while drones and aircraft survey the scene for hazards and to locate the missing.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the missing individuals are workers or bystanders but have stated there were no casualties among firefighters or other emergency crews.
Chief Lawrence said he has never seen anything like this explosion and described the destroyed facility as a licensed pyrotechnics business that sold fireworks for public displays. However, it remains unclear whether fireworks were only stored at the site or also manufactured there.
About 150 nearby homes and farms are without power, and an evacuation zone has been set up around the blast area. Lawrence noted that it is difficult to say when it will be safe for teams to fully access the site, as fireworks continued to ignite unpredictably.
The California fireworks facility explosion has cast a shadow over local Independence Day celebrations as crews work to control lingering threats and determine what caused the devastating blast.
