London, UK: The UK’s cloud computing market will face an investigation over concerns that it is being dominated by tech giants Amazon and Microsoft. Ofcom, the media watchdog, stated that Amazon and Microsoft collectively represent 70–80 percent of the UK’s cloud computing sector, with Google being the closest competitor at 5–10 percent. In April 2023, Ofcom expressed concern that the limited competition in the market made it challenging for businesses to switch cloud computing providers. Ofcom has asked the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to investigate the matter within the sector. Cloud computing is essentially storing data online, allowing…
United Kingdom: A new study has revealed that fluorescence in mammals is much more common than previously anticipated. In recent years, a luminous feature called fluorescence has been found in Australian marsupials, including platypuses, wombats, Tasmanian devils, and echidnas. According to the latest reports, scientists believe that the quality is widespread across mammals after they studied 125 species and found that all of them showed some form of fluorescence. The researchers found that 107 of the 125 species had fur that glowed under UV light. The 125 species represent all 27 living mammalian orders and about half of all living…

The US Central Command stated that the ammunition had been seized last year from a ship accused of transporting weapons from Iran to the Houthi rebel group in Yemen. “The US government transferred approximately 1.1 million 7.62mm rounds to the Ukrainian armed forces, obtained ownership of these munitions on July 20, 2023, through the Department of Justice’s civil forfeiture claims,” the military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement. The decision was made during a time of increased tension…

The UN’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) was set up as part of the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change and has so far approved projects worth nearly $13 billion in 128 countries. In 2018, the ruling right-wing government in Australia withdrew from the initiative after contributing about $127.4 million during its four-year membership. A spokesperson for Foreign Minister Mr. Penny Wong stated that “Australia recognised the GCF as the most prominent of the world’s…
Egypt: Opposition parties in Egypt have claimed that people trying to support candidates running against President Mr. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi have faced obstacles. In a press conference, members of the Civil Democratic Movement (CDM) showcased people who shared incidents of being hindered in supporting candidates. Egypt’s National Election Authority stated they looked into the complaints and dismissed them as unfounded. In Egypt’s election process, candidates need support from a minimum of 25,000 public members across 15 different regions or backing from 20 parliament members. They must also register their candidacy by October 14, 2023. Ms. Rania el-Sheik stated that she…
United Kingdom: The United Kingdom has warned that Russia may use sea mines against civilian shipping in the Black Sea, including by laying them while approaching Ukrainian ports. The warning comes amid Ukraine’s navy saying that 12 cargo vessels were ready to enter the Black Sea shipping corridor on their way to Ukrainian ports. The UK’s Foreign Office said in a statement that intelligence assessments pointed out that Russia was considering the use of sea mines to deter civilian ships traveling through a “humanitarian corridor” established by Ukraine for grain exports from the Black Sea ports. “Russia almost certainly wants…
London, UK: A recent study found that 85 percent of tested machines failed to stop harmful bacteria in babies’ formula. Parents are advised to double-check the formula temperature for their baby’s safety. A mother who participated in the study expressed her surprise when her baby formula preparation machine, designed specifically for babies, was found to have failed the test. Babies who are given formula have a greater chance of getting infections because powdered infant formula can contain harmful bacteria. A study by Swansea University found that 85 percent of the 74 formula-preparing machines tested by parents did not heat the…
