Australia: Tennis Australia has confirmed that a record $51 million is on offer across the Australian summer of tennis this year. The Australian Open singles prize pool was revealed as the main announcement, with the champions of the men’s and women’s singles draws each receiving approximately $2 million.
Round one crashers will get a boost of 3.2 percent to $71,551, while second-round participants will receive an increase of the same amount to $106973.
According to tournament Director Craig Tiley the prize money for the entire Australian summer of tennis, which includes Grand Slam qualifiers like the United Cup, will exceed $67 million for the first time.
“It is critical to the continued success of the Australian tennis summer that we provide strong and relevant playing opportunities and ensure that the best players in the world are compensated appropriately,” Tiley stated.
“At the Australian Open, we’ve upped prize money for every round from qualifying, through to the finals, with the major increases in the early rounds. These substantial rewards help players invest in their own careers and in many cases, set themselves up for success throughout the year,” the tournament Director further added.
Australian Open prize money has increased by more than 321 percent, or $39.27 million, in the last 20 years, when it was $12.24 million. The 2023 Australian Open will mark the 111th edition of the tournament. Always a top-notch tennis event, the 2023 Australian Open will take place from January 16 to 29 in Melbourne and is sure to be one of the highlights of the season.
