New Delhi, India: Atishi Marlena Singh is poised to become the new Chief Minister of Delhi, India’s capital territory. The announcement follows a series of high-profile negotiations and party endorsements, marking a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape.

The announcement was made by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal during a meeting with his party’s legislators in New Delhi.

Atishi Marlena, a prominent leader from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has garnered widespread support for her leadership and policy vision. Her appointment reflects the party’s strategic move to consolidate its position and address pressing issues facing the capital, including governance, infrastructure, and public services.

Kejriwal the present CM of New Delhi since 2015 was granted bail by India’s Supreme Court, six months after being detained in relation to alleged irregularities in the capital city’s liquor policy. He made a statement about his resignation and the announcement of Atishi as CM.

Kejriwal said that, “Today I have come to ask the public whether you consider Kejriwal honest or a criminal … I will resign from the post of CM in two days and ask people whether I am honest.”

As a key figure in Delhi’s political scene, Atishi has previously served as an MLA from Kalkaji and has been instrumental in several reform initiatives. Her new role as Chief Minister is expected to bring a renewed focus on enhancing urban development, education, and health services within the city.

Political analysts view this appointment as a move to strengthen AAP’s governance in Delhi and respond effectively to the demands of its electorate. Atishi’s leadership will be closely watched as she embarks on her new role, navigating the complexities of managing one of India’s most dynamic urban centres.

The official swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to be held in the coming days, marking the start of Atishi’s tenure as Delhi’s Chief Minister.
