London, UK: Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Italian side Inter Milan has signed a 5-year contract with Manchester United for $57 million.
The club can extend the deal for another 12 months, and United will have to pay $4.5 million for that, which is dependent on his success at the club. The 27-year-old will join up with his new teammates on their preseason tour of the United States.
“To join Manchester United is an incredible honour, and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” the player stated.
Onana comes in as a replacement for David de Gea after the player announced his departure from United this month after 12 years at the club. Onana has made clear his intention to move to Old Trafford and reunite with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, who is driving the move for the 27-year-old, as per the statement.
Onana’s tenure at Inter lasted just a single season, during which he achieved remarkable triumphs by securing victories in both the Italian Cup and the Super Cup. His contribution to the team’s success was also evident in their journey to the Champions League final.

However, his time at the World Cup in Qatar last year was tarnished by a controversy with coach Rigobert Song, which ultimately led to his early departure from the tournament. Following the incident, he made the significant decision to retire from the Cameroon national team, announcing the end of his international career.
