Washington: Donald Trump has officially nominated Brooke Rollins, a longtime ally, as the Secretary of Agriculture, finalizing his cabinet appointments.
Rollins, the president of the America First Policy Institute, a MAGA-aligned think tank, is tasked with leading efforts to support American farmers, according to Trump.
Rollins previously served in key roles during Trump’s first term, including as director of the Office of American Innovation and acting director of the Domestic Policy Council.
Trump made the announcement tapping the head of Maga-backed think tank the America First Policy Institute for the job.
Trump said in a statement that, “As our next Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke will spearhead the effort to protect American Farmers, who are truly the backbone of our Country,”
If confirmed, Rollins would oversee critical agricultural programs, including farm subsidies and food safety, and play a significant role in renegotiating trade agreements, particularly with Canada and Mexico.
Her nomination wraps up a series of cabinet picks that included notable figures from Trump’s inner circle and political rivals. However, some nominations, such as Robert Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services.
However, Gaetz withdrew his nomination following allegations of misconduct, which he denied, while Trump quickly nominated Pam Bondi for the role instead.
Rollins’ confirmation, like all cabinet nominees, still requires Senate approval. Trump has faced criticism over certain selections, including Linda McMahon for Education Secretary, due to her lack of experience in the field.
Despite the controversies, Rollins’ nomination marks the conclusion of a turbulent cabinet selection process.
