Iran: Popular Iranian actor Ms. Taraneh Alidoosti has shared a photo of herself on social media without the headscarf that is mandated for women in the Islamic country. Following the death of Ms. Mahsa Amini, weeks of protests have shaken the nation.

The 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman, Ms. Mahsa Amin, who had been detained by Tehran’s morality police for allegedly breaking the nation’s stringent clothing codes for women, passed away in the middle of September.

Ms. Alidoosti shared a photo of herself with her head exposed on her official Instagram account. The actor has openly supported the protest movement. Ms. Alidoosti was displaying the protest movement’s “Jin. Jiyan. Azadi” message in Kurdish which means Woman, Life, and Freedom.

The actor frequently appears in Asghar Farhadi’s films, including The Salesman, which won the 2017 Oscar for best foreign language picture. The star made a promise to stay in her country at “any price” a few days ago on Instagram. Ms. Alidoosti revealed that she intended to stop acting and devote her time to helping the families of those slain or detained during the protest crackdown.

“I will fight for my home. I will pay any price to stand up for my rights, and most importantly, I believe in what we are building together today,” the Iranian actor further added.

Since Ms. Alidoosti was a teenager, she has been a major figure in Iranian films. She has also starred in Saeed Roustayi’s most recent film, Leila’s Brothers, which debuted at the Cannes film festival this year. The actor is also recognized in Iran for being an outspoken supporter of women’s rights and other human rights.

Before the protest movement spurred by Ms. Amini’s killing began, Iranian cinema leaders were already facing criticism. Award-winning filmmakers Mr. Mohammad Rasoulof and Mr. Jafar Panahi are still being held in custody after being taken into custody earlier this year.
