San Francisco: OpenAI plans to integrate Sora in ChatGPT to expand AI video creation tools amid rising competition in generative AI, according to a report.
Sora represents an expansion of OpenAI’s efforts in multimodal artificial intelligence technologies. The tool allows users to generate videos from text prompts and competes with text-to-video technologies developed by companies such as Meta and Google, which operates under Alphabet.
While AI models focused on text generation have already been widely adopted in homes and workplaces, tools capable of producing videos and images are increasingly seen as the next frontier in artificial intelligence and its potential to transform industries and digital content creation.
OpenAI first launched Sora as a standalone application in September 2025. The app allows users to create and share AI-generated videos, including clips that can be produced using copyrighted content and distributed through social media-style streams within the platform.

Despite the planned integration into ChatGPT, the report said that OpenAI intends to continue operating Sora as a standalone application. OpenAI’s move also comes amid intensifying competition in the generative AI space.
When OpenAI launched ChatGPT in late 2022, it caught major technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Apple, off guard and triggered a rapid race to develop generative AI tools.
While several firms are still catching up, Google has recently taken the lead with the launch of its Gemini 3 Pro models in November 2025, offering advanced AI capabilities for productivity and creative tasks such as editing and digital art.
The company also introduced the multimedia editing tool Nano Banana across its Gemini AI chat app, the Google Chrome browser, and other services to enhance user experience.
