Canberra: Australia captain Alyssa Healy has announced she will retire from all forms of cricket following the upcoming multi-format series against India, bringing to a close one of the most celebrated careers in women’s cricket.
The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batter leaves the game with more than 7,000 international runs and 275 dismissals across formats. As captain, she led Australia to a historic 16-0 Ashes whitewash over England in 2025, further cementing her legacy as one of the sport’s great leaders.
Healy’s honours list includes two ODI World Cup titles and six T20 World Cup triumphs. Among her many career-defining moments is her stunning 170 against England in the 2022 World Cup final, the highest individual score in a World Cup final.
Reflecting on her decision, Healy said she remains deeply proud of representing Australia but feels the time is right to step away.

Healy stated that, “I’m still passionate about playing for Australia, but I’ve somewhat lost that competitive edge that’s kept me driven since the start. I’ll genuinely miss my team-mates, singing the team song and walking out to open the batting for Australia. Representing my country has been an incredible honour and I’m grateful for one last series in the green and gold.”
Healy comes from a strong cricketing lineage. She is married to Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc and is the niece of Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy. Alongside her playing career, she has also established herself as a respected broadcaster and commentator.
Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg paid tribute to her impact on the game. Todd Greenberg remarked that, “Alyssa is one of the all-time greats and has made an immeasurable contribution both on and off the field over her 15-year career. We look forward to celebrating her achievements throughout the series against India.”
Australia are set to host India for a Test match, three one-day internationals and three T20 internationals across February and March, with the series now set to double as a farewell tour for one of the game’s most influential figures.
