United States: Billionaire Elon Musk has announced plans to relocate the corporate offices of two of his most well-known businesses, the social media platform X and the rocket company SpaceX, from California to Texas.
Musk announced the decision in a post on X, citing the new California law that forbids transgender notification requirements in schools as the “final straw” and claiming that such laws “both families and companies.”
He cited his objection to a recently passed state law in California that prohibits schools from requiring employees to tell parents or other parties about a student’s gender identity.
He has been more and more interested in US politics. He formally endorsed Donald Trump for president over the weekend. In 2021, the businessman relocated Tesla’s headquarters to Texas, a move he had initially threatened due to the COVID-era lockdowns.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California signed the bill into law on Monday, making it illegal for schools to have regulations requiring parents to be notified if their child wants to change their pronouns or comes out as transgender.
The legislature passed the act in response to many school districts implementing similar policies. According to earlier reports, Musk might have already been thinking about relocating X’s headquarters prior to the bill’s signing.
While Newsom refrained from directly addressing Musk’s relocation from California, he did criticize the executive’s recent endorsement of Donald Trump in a tweet on Tuesday.
