United States: Nicki Minaj has cancelled her performance at the Saga Festival in Bucharest, Romania, citing “safety concerns.” The US rapper was scheduled to perform on Sunday evening.
She added, nevertheless, that she had been advised to make “sound decisions” in light of the “protests in the area” to ensure that she could return home to her son and her team’s families.
“Well-being of our team and myself” was her motivation for acting, she claimed. She continued, saying that she still hopes to play Friday at the Wireless Festival in London.
In a post on X, Minaj shared that, “Out of concern for the well-being of our team and myself, I have been advised by my security detail not to travel to Romania’s festival tonight due to safety concerns regarding protests in the area. I look forward to seeing you all at another time.”
The 41-year-old star added that, “As a mom, I have to make sure I’m making sound decisions for me to make it home to my son and for my team to make it home to their families. To not heed the advice of security at this time is simply not what I think I should be doing.”
“I love you and thank you for your understanding and support. I am very excited to see my fans this Friday in London for another very special headlining show at Wireless Festival,” Minaj said.
A gig that Minaj was scheduled to do in Amsterdam last month was postponed after she was detained there on suspicion of trying to smuggle “soft drugs” out of the nation.
She said that because of her race, she had received different treatment. Her arrest resulted in a delay that prevented her from attending a show at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena; the event was subsequently rescheduled.
