United Kingdom: King Charles III has made his first major public appearance since being diagnosed with cancer. He greeted well-wishers and shook hands with people after the Easter Day service in Windsor.
Queen Camilla accompanied the King, but the Prince and Princess of Wales did not attend as Catherine is still undergoing cancer treatment. Despite the cancer diagnosis, the King resumed work, but all his meetings so far taken place in private. The 75-year-old King astonished the waiting masses, who hailed him as he welcomed them outside St George’s Chapel after the service.
The British King addressed the people and remarked that, “You are very brave to stand out here in the cold.” Many in the crowd wished the couple a happy Easter and wished the King a speedy recovery. “We are all rooting for you and have your back,” a member of the public conveyed to him.
The Majesty appeared to relish the walkabout, and it was a promising indication that he felt comfortable enough to shake hands and converse with the gathering. The worldwide popularity of royals is evident at events like this. Visitors from New Zealand and the United States were among the attendees at Windsor, none of whom hoped to meet the King and Queen.
As King Charles arrived for the service with Queen Camilla, he was warmly welcomed by the crowd. Shortly after, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, escorted by their son James, Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, and the Duke and Duchess of York were seen arriving just before the King and Queen.
There were no public events attended by the King this year. In January, he was diagnosed with cancer while undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate. While the type of cancer has not been disclosed, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that it is not prostate cancer.
