Low levels of haemoglobin are common due to iron deficiency. Haemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen and gives blood its colour. Iron deficiency, also known as anaemia, occurs when there is a lack of iron in the body leading to reduced haemoglobin levels in the blood.

Some common symptoms of iron deficiency include persistent fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, and pale skin, among others. If you’re struggling with iron deficiency, there are several iron-rich ingredients you can look for in your kitchen instead of relying solely on supplements.

You can also use seasonal fruits and vegetables to create juices and other drinks that can help boost your haemoglobin levels. The Institute of Medicine recommends that adult men consume 8 milligrams of iron daily, while women should consume 18 milligrams. For pregnant women, the recommended daily intake is 27 milligrams, and for lactating women, it’s 9 milligrams.

    Beetroot juice

Let’s start with a vegetable that is often found in our kitchen, beetroot. Drinking beetroot juice can offer many health benefits, including boosting your haemoglobin levels. Beetroot juice is loaded with iron, folate, and antioxidants, which support red blood cell production and overall blood health. By incorporating this energizing juice into your daily routine, you can take advantage of its powerful haemoglobin-boosting effects.

    Mint juice

Mint is a widely used ingredient in our kitchens. It is often added to dishes to give a fresh flavour. Mint leaves are not only flavourful but also contain iron. 100 grams of mint leaves contain 15.6 milligram of iron, which is great for replenishing haemoglobin levels. You can consider adding mint juice to your daily routine for a refreshing and iron-rich drink that can support your blood health.

    Amla juice

Amla, which is also known as Indian gooseberry, is highly respected for its high vitamin C content. This makes it an excellent accompaniment to iron-rich foods. Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron, which in turn helps produce haemoglobin. By drinking amla juice regularly, you can naturally enhance your blood health and raise your haemoglobin levels.

    Apple juice

Eating an apple every day not only helps in keeping the doctor away, but it also supports your blood health. Apple juice is rich in iron and other essential nutrients that provide a natural boost to your haemoglobin levels. It is advisable not to discard the skin as it contains valuable nutrients that enhance the fruit’s health benefits. Consider adding apples to your juicing regime to reap their blood-building benefits.

    Pomegranate juice

Pomegranates are an excellent choice for treating iron deficiency. This juice is highly recommended for increasing your blood count. Bursting with iron, vitamins A, C and E, it provides a powerful dose of essential nutrients for haemoglobin production. Moreover, pomegranates contain ascorbic acid, which helps in the absorption of iron, making it a great choice for improving your blood health. For maximum benefits, it is recommended to choose homemade pomegranate juice over processed varieties.

    Banana juice

Bananas are not only a delicious snack or a diet food ingredient, but they are also an excellent source of iron. These fruits that are rich in potassium can help to increase haemoglobin production. Bananas provide folic acid, which is a vital B-complex vitamin that is necessary for the formation of red blood cells. By adding bananas to your daily diet, you can maintain optimal haemoglobin levels, which can lead to better health.
