London, UK: North-west England has been on Amber alert as Storm Debi is set to bring heavy rain and strong winds.
The Met Office has warned the public to stay alert against strong and disruptive winds, along with the risk of flying debris. There’s a likelihood of damage to buildings and structures, and heavy objects, like roof tiles carried by the wind, could pose a potential threat to life.
The Met Office also issued a warning that roads and bridges may close, leading to extended travel durations and potential cancellations of public transport and other services. The impact is expected on road, rail, air, and ferry services.
People are also warned about the possibility of power cuts, disruptions to mobile phone signals, and other potential issues as the storm affects power and telecommunication lines.
People in coastal areas are advised to stay clear of the waterfront, as the storm may cause large waves and beach debris to be thrown onto coastal roads, seafronts, and nearby properties.
Weather alerts have been issued for extensive regions of the UK as the storm is predicted to move over Ireland and then reach northern England and parts of Wales on Monday, with the potential for gusts reaching 80mph in certain areas.
Mr. Jonathan Vautrey, a meteorologist for the Met Office, asked people to “take care before you travel” as morning rush hour is expected to be affected.
“There will be some heavy rainfall, the potential for flying debris, the potential for disruption to travel, and infrastructure in places,” Mr. Vautrey added.
