United States: Former US President Mr. Donald Trump is expected to face court charges on 3rd August 2023 at 4 PM (US standard time) for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election.

Mr. Trump and six individuals, who have not been identified, are facing accusations of plotting to disrupt the 2020 election.

This marks the third criminal indictment against the former president since March 2023, and it is considered the most severe among the cases that could potentially impact his 2024 White House election. The arrest and arraignment will occur at a federal courthouse situated near the US Capitol.

The former President is expected to plead not guilty. Although he has the option of appearing remotely via video feed, it is understood he will attend in person, as per the statement. In anticipation of Mr. Trump’s visit, federal agencies and local police have been strengthening security measures in the nation’s capital.

The US Secret Service, which protects presidents and ex-presidents, has released a statement warning the public of “short-term traffic implications” in central Washington, DC.

A Secret Service spokesman, Mr. Anthony Guglielmi, stated that the agency would “ensure the highest levels of safety and security for the former president while minimizing disruptions to the normal court process.”

Currently, Mr. Trump is the clear front-runner in the Republican Party’s race to select its next presidential candidate. The 77-year-old politician is facing charges in two other cases, including one for mishandling classified files and another for falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payment to a porn star.
